Settei – character sheets
Settei, also known as character sheets, are fundamental production documents in Japanese animation. Created by animation studios, they precisely define character design: proportions, expressions, clothing details, multiple views, and graphic notes intended to ensure visual consistency throughout production.
True reference tools for animators, settei structure collaborative work and guarantee the coherence of a character from one scene to the next. Originally designed for internal use only, they were never meant to be preserved or circulated, which makes them particularly rare and highly sought after by collectors today.
This subcategory brings together settei selected from my personal collection, along with reference points to better understand their function, how to read them, and their importance within the creative process. A space dedicated to animation enthusiasts and collectors who wish to explore these documents as essential archives of character design and the memory of Japanese animation, far beyond their material value.
