Shikishis

Shikishis are traditional Japanese cardboard boards used for original illustrations and artist signatures. Rooted in long-standing cultural practices, they occupy a unique position within the worlds of anime and manga, at the intersection of artwork, spontaneous gesture, and human exchange.

Often created during events, signing sessions, or released in limited editions, shikishis embody a direct connection between creators and their audience. Each piece bears the marks of a specific moment—a line, a signature, sometimes a handwritten note—that makes the object deeply personal and unique.

This subcategory brings together shikishis selected from my personal collection, along with reference points to better understand their origin, artistic value, and place within a thoughtful collecting approach. A space dedicated to enthusiasts and collectors who wish to preserve these items as intimate witnesses of the bond between artists, works, and cultural memory, far beyond their apparent rarity.
